Department 24 has a long history that began with Accent Pieces Exports, its predecessor.
Carmelita Sembrano established Accent Pieces Exports in 1985, specializing in seasonal décor. It was successful and well respected, gaining accolades as a Golden Shell awardee. (The Golden Shell Award given by the Department of Trade and Industry is the highest honor bestowed on Filipino companies for excellence in exports.) It was also a recipient of the Katha Award given by CITEM for Philippine design excellence through the recognition of product design and innovation.
Thirty years later, changing market conditions and stiff competition from China and Vietnam, led Accent Pieces Exports to rebrand to Department 24. Originally envisioned to expand into housewares, the company realized that its strength lay in what it knew best – holiday décor. The company returned to its core business.
Department 24 is currently headed by Sembrano’s daughter, Rowena Lagdameo. Export continues to fuel its business, with the U.S. as its main market. It also engages in local retail, using their Libis, Quezon City showroom as their holiday store. The Christmas store is normally open from October to December but will remain closed in 2020 because of the pandemic.
Sembrano shares that their seasonal business is a tough one. It is only passion, a passion for Christmas, that continues to drive the business. Department 24 is manned 100% by women who are dedicated and love what they do. It owes it success and longevity to understanding its capabilities and being relevant.
Department 24 is a seasonal manufacturing design company. Its mission is to create beautiful products that bring joy to the family during the holidays.
